better then classic action adventures for example , the last free roaming game that I played was Grand Theft Auto V , it's the most famous brand in videogame industry, some people don't like it because their say there is too much violence inside , but in my opinion there isn't more violence then when you watch a action movie where the protagonist play the bad guy role, if you like this kind of game and you want learn english, it's a powerfull combination. But , why this game was so awesome for improve my english ? Well , this is what happened when I played with it : I was soak in a huge world , whoever in his life played at least one time at this sort of videogame he have a vague idea about how much wide could be the field, in this example we have a field of game big three time the real city on Manhattan, not bad , in one part of this virtual world there is a big city called Los Santos , what I like about these virtual cities is that the developers when make it they take ispiration by real city , infact Los Santos looking like
Los Angeles , if you never go in any english big city , playing with these game can give you a good idea about how you would feel driving or walking in these metropolis. So, while I driving in Los Santos I had the feeling to be in Los Angeles, very often I slowed down with the car because I wanted to read the sign boards above every shops , so I learned what the words " barbell , wig , tattoo " mean , I slowed down again when I wanted read what was written in a big poster sticked in a big building , there was written " mall " , what a strange word I thought , I never met it before , so , I took my phone, went on google translate and I learned that American people call shopping center " mall " , which better way to learn words ? Every words that I met remained memorize in my mind , because I wasn't trying to memorize a list of random words like in the school, instead I learned by mental association , I had a lot of curiosity about know what the words meant. Anyway , I still was driving on street , turn on the autoradio and started to listening a lot of english musics meanwhile I was on my way to comeback at home , but not only music , also a lot of radio interview and news stories about what happen in Los Santos , there are about 9 hours of this stuff recorder in the game, then the phone of my character rang , and him started a long conversation with a man who had a strange english accent. After awhile I was tired about driving , so I get off from my car to walking a bit among people and I enjoyed listening their talk together , because used many real american slang , " what's up , how you doing , see ya , wasted , weirdo " , and so on, after because the trafficlight was green, I crossed a intersection , but one girl hit me with her car , after her asked me " sorry , you are hurt ? " , so , I was in contact with the english language in relentless way. And what about cut scenes ? Wow , Grand Theft Auto V had a lot of it , and the characters talked a perfect american english. In conclusion this game was been much more that a mere game , rather a full immersion in american language and culture , after I played with it my knowledge was improved, this happen when you use videogames for a right purpose , that's why I think free roaming game are awesome in order to learn english. One more thing , this game have a lot of violence and not polite words inside , so , could be not for all , decide you if it's the case of buy it or not , among all the videogames I played , this is absolutely among the best who helped me to improve my english , especially american slang.
